This week, we finally present an MCV Award to a games industry giant, request (no, demand) your most embarrassing E3 photos and take a look at Nintendo’s latest Mario ad. Plus, your chance to win the Euros – sort of.
IN WITH THE NEWELL
It took a while to track him down, but Valve’s Gabe Newell (right) has finally been handed the MCV Award for Digital Retailer in recognition of Steam and its impact on the games market. The award was originally picked up on Newell’s behalf by Sega’s John Clark (inset, clutching onto the cherished prize for as long as he could) at the 2012 MCV Industry Excellence Awards in April.
Clark caught up with the
Valve boss at E3 in Los Angeles and sent us this photo to prove he had actually given up the award. Congratulations again, Gabe. You look remarkably comfortable
holding something physical. Maybe we’ll let you download your next award.
INDIES GET SOME CAPCOM LOVE Capcom and CentreSoft invited indies to exotic Birmingham for its Independent Retail Product Showcase on May 31st. There, the publisher showed off its hottest games such as DmC, Lost Planet 3
and Steel Battalion, as well as the UK premiere of Resident Evil 6. We can only hope that each presentation was as dedicated as that of Steel Battalion producer Tatsuya Kitabayashi (left), who flew in from Japan and dressed in a military uniform. “The event was a huge success, giving independent retailers the opportunity to have a first look at the fantastic roster of titles,” said CentreSoft’s commercial director Margaret Pearson. “The Capcom day at CentreSoft was a very worthwhile event showing some awesome products,” said Games Centre director Stephen Walton.
“It was great to see the re-incarnation of Steel Battalionfor the Kinect along with DmCand Resident Evil 6,which should all result in plenty of sales going forward.”
