PlayStation’s popular platforming duo return in the HD remastered edition of their first adventures
Simulation experts Contact Sales is branching out with a wider range of genres. Dominic Sacco takes a look
ALREADY known for its simulation titles like Farming Simulator, Contact Sales is embracing other PC titles like El Matador.
BEFORE orchestrating an alien invasion of 1950s Earth in the Resistanceseries, Insomniac Games was known for its platformers – most notably Ratchet & Clank. While PS3 owners will be perfectly
familiar with the cartoony duo thanks to All 4 Oneand A Crack In Time, they may not have experienced the pair’s earlier adventures. Enter The Ratchet & Clank Collection, the latest PS3 compilation to delve into Sony’s back catalogue. This features the first three PS2 outings: Ratchet & Clank, Going Commandoand Up Your Arsenal. Everything fans remember has been lovingly recreated for the high definition generation, with all three games now playable in 1080p – there is even a stereoscopic 3D mode. And Up Your Arsenal’s multiplayer returns, supporting up to eight players across PSN. Trophies have also been added to each title. Ratchet & Clank are a firm favourite among PlayStation fans and Sony is expecting big things from this re-release.
“Since its announcement, we’ve received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the community,” SCEE’s marketing assistant Michael Hancock. The Ratchet & Clank Collection will be promoted via an online campaign, with activity planned for Facebook and PlayStation Access.

This third-person shooter follows a DEA special agent who must infiltrate the headquarters of a new narcotics cartel across central and South America. El Matador is one of many new releases in Contact Sales’ recently expanded Extra Play range. The game was originally released in 2006 but returns now as a budget title. “At £9.99 we are appealing to a mass market,” says MD Robert Stallibrass. “People are careful what they spend money on. And Extra Play offers quality at the right price.”

Death Track: Resurrection
Dominic Sacco takes a closer look at Contact Sales’ destructive racer
RACING and destruction is already a winning mix for core gamers – just look at the success of the long- running Burnoutfranchise. Death Track: Resurrection– a boxed budget PC game with a price tag of £9.99 – promises similar thrills. Death Track is a futuristic fictional sport where players must race across ten global locations, such as London, New York and Tokyo, while gunning down rival vehicles. Mines, bullets and even guided robots can knock enemies off the track. Plus, there’s 100km of roads to race across and five different gameplay modes to try out. Death Track: Resurrection is ideal for PC racing fans on a budget.
