RECOMMENDED: LEGO BATMAN 2: DC SUPER HEROES

IN A YEAR where the big screen is being dominated by superheroes, it’s the perfect time to release a superpowered blockbuster. Four years since it first blended Batman and brick, Warner Bros returns to Gotham with LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, the sequel to the best-selling LEGO game of all time. When the Joker and Lex Luthor rally the greatest team of villains the world has ever seen, Batman and Robin call upon the Justice League: a who’s who of classic superheroes including Wonder Woman, the Flash, the Green Lantern and Superman.

(NOT SO) SILENT KNIGHT Not only does LEGO Batman 2mark the LEGO debut for these heroes, it is also the franchise’s first title to feature talking characters. There are 50 playable characters in total, each with unique powers, such as Batman’s Power Suit and the Man of Steel’s heat vision and ability to fly.

The linear levels have been ditched in favour of an open world Gotham City, with players using toy versions of the Batmobile and other vehicles to get around.

Of course, some franchise staples remain, including drop-in/drop-out co-op and the family-friendly humour that the franchise is known for. “This is our biggest release for the first half of 2012 so we have spent time developing an exciting POS pack and driving pre-orders through,” says UK sales and marketing director Spencer Crossley. “There is a real opportunity for the game to gain extra exposure across retail with the release of The Dark Knight Rises so as a company we are looking at the whole cross- category piece as a focus for us through summer and beyond into Q4. “And let’s not forget that the first LEGO Batman has sold over 1.5m copies in the UK to-date.”
