EYOND ITS PICTURESQUE MOUNTAINS AND GLIT- tering bay views, Tacoma and Pierce County offer meeting professionals and their attendees an accessible, facility-rich destination for meet- ings both large and small. About 18 miles south of the Seattle–Tacoma International Airport, Tacoma and Pierce County’s five major convention and event centers suit larger groups, while an array of unique off-site venues comfortably accommo-

date smaller meetings and retreats. Meeting planners will also find a variety of hotels with meeting space and plenty of pre- and post- meeting leisure activities. Many of the city’s meeting venues, hotels, shopping districts, restaurants, and attractions are within walking distance of each other or easy reach via local transportation. One of the area’s standout off-site venues, LeMay–America’s Car

Museum, opens in June 2012 on a nine-acre campus. The attrac- tion’s four-story museum will include 165,000 square feet of flexible meeting space suit- able for gatherings of up to 2,500 people. Its smaller spaces and exhibits, including the grand gallery and show field, are also sure to impress. In Gig Harbor, the new Harbor His- tory Museum offers 15,000 square feet of space for events up to 250 guests. The muse- um’s exhibitions and hands-on experiences are available during meetings or as pre- and post-convention activities. The city of Fife provides planners with

another conveniently located destination for meetings. Minutes from Tacoma and Seattle, the city’s 140-room Emerald Queen Hotel + Casinos offers two meeting spaces as well as gaming and live entertainment. n
