REGULATION
Jersey gambling regulations
P making progress
laytechhas applied to the Jer- sey Gambling Commission (JGC) for a Remote Gambling li- cence under authority granted by the Remote Gambling (Jersey) Regulations 2008. The application is a significant step forward for the Island’s eGaming strategy and comes following many months of talks between Jersey Enterprise, the JGC, and Playtech. This included meetings with Playtech’s chief executive Mor Weizer dur- ing Jersey’s business delegation visit to Is- rael in May 2011.
The JGC has also agreed terms with the Danish Gambling Authorityfor a bilateral cooperation agreement, the scope of which is support for each other’s legitimate inter- ests and provide mutual operational assis- tance in achieving targets and aims. The agreement, which was executed on the 25 January 2012, paves the way for Jersey to act as a ‘home base’ from which operators can serve their fragmented European gam- bling operations from a single high-tech low-cost jurisdiction.
CHRIS EVANS Chris Evans, founder and CEO of Fore-
shore, Jersey’s leading ecommerce hosting and technology facility, commented: “The fact that the news of the collaboration be- tween Jersey and Denmark follows swiftly on the heels of the announcement that Playtech has applied for a licence in Jersey is the start of very exciting times for us. We already have some of the world’s largest retailers and fi- nancial institutions hosted in Foreshore’s fa- cilities and we look forward to working with European and global gambling operators.” He added: “Co-operation with other regu- latory bodies around the world is fundamen- tal to being a successful regulatory body. We fully expect that 2012 will be the year for Jer- sey to make a significant and pronounced impact on the gambling scene, and Fore- shore has the pedigree and technological capability to serve Jersey’s clients with our 100 per cent uptime SLA.”
