to be alongside the team when they get promoted to permanently play in the 1. Bundesliga.” Peter Frymuth, CEO of Fortuna Düsseldorf, added: “Through the agreement with
myBet.de, Infront has won one of the leading companies in the field of sports betting as a partner for our team, one that will stay committed to the club beyond the current season.”
Bet365 leads the way for in-play sports
In the latest in-play survey by GamblingData, Bet365 and William Hill are leading their peers in terms of numbers of sports and markets respectively.
IN-PLAY O
nline bookmakers Bet365 and William Hill are vying for market leadership position in the field of in-play betting, according to the results of a new survey released last month from GamblingData.
In the first of a series of quar- terly In-Play Tracker (IPT) surveys, analysts at GamblingData found that Bet365 leads the way in terms of both sports covered and events offered within their in-play proposition. But it is William Hill which was found to offer the most markets per event within the con- fines of the survey period. The survey took place between Saturday 26 November and Friday 9 December last year. It compared the offerings of eight of the leading sportsbooks within specified 10- minute betting windows during the 14-day survey period. Within the windows Bet365 offered a total of 20 sports in-play and 534 events. In terms of events,
the Stoke-based firm led from second placed Sportingbet which itself racked up 358 events. Next best in terms of sports offered were Ladbrokes and Unibet with 15 sports each. Technical issues meant that
12Bet’s events data for the first two days of the survey was lost. When the last 12-days of betting windows are looked at, the picture changes dramatically. While Bet365 still lead with 419 events, 12Bet moves up to second place with 279 events, just pipping Sport- ingbet which had a total of 276 events for the 12 days.
The survey was designed to capture information during two ‘football Saturdays’ as well as suc- cessive Champions League and Europa League weeks, but also more off-peak periods during the rest of the week.
Although football dominated the offerings throughout the betting windows, the survey also
captured data which showed the various sportsbooks offering such obscure sports as Bandy, Beach Volleyball and Futsal.
After football with 69 percent of the events covered within the survey, GamblingData found that basketball was the second most important sport with 7 percent of the total number of events, followed by tennis (which was reaching the very tail end of its season at the time of the survey) with 4 percent and volleyball also with 4 percent. On the vital ‘football Saturdays’, the survey found that Bet365 won the first weekend with 67 events available to bet on live at the time of the betting window, with 41 of these being football. But during the second Saturday within the survey, it was William Hill which took the spoils with 67 events, of which 56 were football matches. Alongside the survey, Gam- blingData has also released analy- sis of the issues raised by the rise

of sports streaming, speaking to market leaders Perform and Sportsman Media alongside leading sports-betting operators. For this issue of IPT, the Gam- blingData team have provided detailed insight of the Italian in- play market and also take a look at the lobbying effort being under- taken in Australia to persuade the government there to relax the rules with regard to in-play and other aspects of online gaming. Scott Longley, managing editor at GamblingData, said: “These results show once again the primacy of in-play when it comes
to some of the top sportsbooks. All of the offerings covered within the survey have improved since the pilot study was undertaken in April last year, and to a marked extent. “As we also show in this report, this has been helped along by the rise of streamed sport as a must- have element for the best online sportsbook offerings. It will be fascinating to see whether Bet365 extends its lead in the year ahead, or whether the other sites will take the opportunities afforded by this year’s packed sporting cal- endar to gain some ground on the market leaders.”
