IT WAS A BARREN January in terms of new games, with
Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS the only new game in the January charts. And that only managed No.45.
Compare that to last year, when LittleBigPlanet 2and Dead Space 2 were on the shelves, and you can see why the boxed games market was 30 per cent down year-on-year.
But it wasn’t the only reason. Stock shortages at retail, driven by credit issues at GAME and HMV, meant there were fewer titles on shelves than suppliers would have liked.
EA was the No.1 publisher for the month. FIFA 12– which was No.1 each week during January – was the top seller. But the publisher will be most pleased with its Battlefield 3, which beat Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 3last month.
Fitness titles also litter the charts, with customers looking to these titles to help them burn off some of the festive flab. 505 GAMESleads the way with two Zumbatitles in the Top Ten. And don’t be surprised to see these games hang around the upper end of the charts until the big core titles start to arrive during Q4.
