Software, digital printing/cutting and dye sub There are a plethora of PhotoShop and CorelDraw tutorials on the web, including those specific to screenprinting and digital transfer printing.
Scott Fresener (mentioned above) also has a number of tutorials on graphic software, including a series of introductory videos on using computer graphics software on YouTube. However, a number of suppliers that specialise in dye-sub also provide basic lessons on sizing/shaping images using either Photoshop or CorelDraw, with the ultimate aim of producing digital transfers. Sawgrass Technologies is one of them. Based in the US and in Sheffield, the company also hosts a number of videos on all things dye sub, onto substrates ranging from mousemats, mugs and bags. It has also just launched a new sublimation printing blog on its site
howtosublimate.com. Xpres is another supplier that hosts video footage on its website explaining how to use its own systems and consumables. Its technical support pages host videos showing you how to use products such as its Ultragraphics digital print system and Roland cutting machine. Roland also offers a number of online tutorials for its engraving, cutting and printing machines on its own website. And donʼt forget all of the useful how-to videos available on the
website of TheMagicTouch, which demonstrates how to print on a wide range of substrates using its range of products.
Embroidery/digitising Wilcom offers free online tutorials to customers who have bought their digitising products – some of these are scheduled online training classes but there are also recorded classes available to watch at your convenience. Those just starting out can download an official version on Wilcomʼs TrueSizer software at
www.embroiderystartup.com. This site also hosts forums where users can buy or sell equipment, and talk to other embroiderers about all things embroidery.
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com – the Brother Solutions Center, offers all of its manuals online but also has an interesting feature which shows the top five most-asked FAQs. You can also search for FAQs via a keyword search. Brother tutorials and a host of other resources for embroiderers are available via the Stocks portal at
www.embroiderymachinery.co.uk.
Brother embroidery machine users will also find that there are many videos uploaded onto YouTube by both official and non- official sources. Similarly, Your Embroidery Services showcases a number of its products, including SWF machines, on
www.yesltd.co.uk. Finally, anyone with a Happy machine can access the companyʼs Embroidery Bootcamp series of PDF documents accessible on the
Happyemb.com website, which also offers online classes to users of its embroidery machines.
Direct to garment digital printing
There are video clips of many of the digital direct-to-garment printing machines that have hit the market in recent years. Generally, these are product-specific, since each will have its own software and way of working.
