Sabic opens ETP development unit
Sabic Innovative Plastics has official opened its new pilot development facility for high performance polymers at its Mount Vernon site in Indiana, US.
The new unit will be used to
create new grades of Ultem polyetherimide (PEI), Extem thermoplastic polyimide (TPI) and Siltem amorphous resins, which combine the high heat resistance of PEI with the flexibility of silicone elastomers. The new 280m2
facility will
help to speed up the develop- ment of new polymers, particularly custom formula- tions. Sabic says that it will
also increase customer access to its research scientists and product development special- ists. Pilot work was previously carried out externally. Sanjay Mishra, global high-
performance polymers technology leader for specialty and performance at Sabic IP said: “The new pilot facility takes us to a new level of high performance polymers technical innovation and dedicated support that our customers expect of us, especially those in growing, high-demand sectors like aerospace and healthcare.” ❙

US moulder adds capacity
Ohio, US-based Design Molded Plastics has acquired a new 4,500m2
facility to provide
additional assembly space. The new facility adjoins its custom
existing 6,000m2
moulding plant in the town on Macedonia. The extra space will be used to complete a number of new projects the company has secured in recent months from its customers in the medical, home appliance

and electronics sectors. “We are being presented
with projects that customers are sourcing back to the US from China,” said Jay Honsak- er, president of Design Molded Plastics. “This new facility will allow us to continue to support the needs of our current customers, as well as providing the needed space to develop and launch future products.” ❙
