Germany’s plastics packaging industry trade association industrievereinigung Kunstst- offverpackungen (iK) says its members are beginning 2012 with greater economic confidence than at the end of last year but still see some
challenges ahead. the association says its
2012 first quarter economic trend shows that almost all respondents judge the current economic situation to be at least satisfactory. However, they are somewhat cautious
over the outlook for their individual companies; while two thirds expect turnover to continue to grow in 2012 around 20% are expecting weakening sales, especially in export markets. iK managing director Ulf
Hai tian selects Bericap
German closure maker Bericap has developed a custom closure for Hai tian, china’s leading manufacturer of soy sauce with a capacity of more than 500,000 tonnes a year. the new 36mm closure is a two piece design incorporating a double tamper-evidence tear-off band and tear-off membrane, active hinge and marguerite flow control. it will be used on Hai tian’s Yi Ping Xiang line of soy sauce, the company’s premium brand packaged in 500ml glass bottles. each closure is delivered with a special liner
installed to prevent the risk of leakage during the hot filling process.

Huhtamaki completes
italian review european packaging group Huhtamaki has announced that its three remaining rigid plastics packaging operations in italy are to be integrated into its Food Service operations. the future of the three
sites, which generate sales of around €50m and are located at turin, Parma and Buccino, has been under review since 2008. they were the only remaining elements of the company’s european rigid plastics business, other parts of which were sold to Sun capital Partners in 2010. ❙

lanxess says it has obtained US FdA certification for 10 of its Macrolex colorants for use in eastman’s tritan copolyester. the company says the
colorants meet FdA require- ments up to a total content of 0.2%, more than required for
tinting applications. Macrolex colorants are said
to be particularly suitable for colouring amorphous poly- mers, providing high intensity, brilliance, light fastness and heat stability. ❙

US-based elastocon tPe technologies has an- nounced two new tPe grades for applications such as closures and wine corks. the elastocon 2850Pe and 2865Pe grades offer shore A hardness values of 50 and 65 respectively and are formulated for over- moulding onto a range of Pe resins. the materials are said to comply with FdA requirements and are odourless and translucent. ❙
