makers, after China and the USA. India is the sector’s fourth largest market. In 2010, worldwide exports of plastics and rubber machinery to Russia reached a value of E399.7m, according to the VDMA. This was up by almost 23% on the 2009 result. Germany is the number one supplier, holding a share in 2010 worth E124.2m. It is followed by Italy at E53.3m and China at E49.9m. Germany was one of the few suppliers of plastics and rubber machinery to see the value of its sales to Russia decline in 2010, down by 8% on 2009. However, German manufacturers appear to have realised a


 

first nine months of 2011 up by 87% to a value of E143.2m. The Italian industry has also seen a strong


improvement in the Russian market. Assocomaplast, the trade association for plastics and rubber machinery and mould makers, reported last month that its members’ sales to the 10 CIS countries (which include Russia and Ukraine) grew by 65.5% to E102.7m over the first nine months of 2011. Meanwhile, the VDMA says worldwide exports of plastics and rubber machinery to India totalled


E565.3m in 2010, an increase of 16.6% on 2009. Germany is also the number one supplier to India, with a 25% share of the market worth E141.1m. Second place is held by


China with a value of E119.6m and third place Taiwan at E66.2m. German exports of plastics and rubber machin-


ery to India over the first nine months of 2011 totalled E125.3m, up by 44.8% on the same period in 2010. while Italy holds a strong place in the Russian


market, in India its machinery makers only managed to


hold on to sixth place in 2010 with export sales worth E29.8m. Italy’s plastics and rubber machinery business in India was down by almost 33% on 2009 – the country was almost the only supplier to post a fall.
