South Devon MAG enlist their MEPʼs support
A petition was raised to protest at EU madness and found a sympathetic ear in the Parliament
Back in the summer when the dayglo issue started to rear its head again (in France and Ireland), my brother, Roy Cook (
S.Devon MAG treasurer) decided he had to do something. We raised a petition to gauge public opinion on the issue, as we figured that if France and Ireland did decide to go with compulsory dayglo it would be harder for the UK to hold it off. We took the petition down to Paignton Bike Night where we took the MAG stand and started collecting signatures. Needless to say, almost without exception bikers were happy to sign to indicate that they would not be happy to have compulsory
Norwich MAG launches
A new Norwich MAG group has been launched on October 24th as a direct result of the success of the September 25th protest rides. The venue was The Little Melton Village Inn just outside of Norwich. Long term MAG member Andy Baker and Taz Surfleet (co-ordinator of the Norwich protest ride), got together with Jon Quantrell proprietor of Hawg Haven, a local Harley Davidson custom shop. Using word of mouth, Facebook and a letter to local members, they managed to get over 70 people together for the first meeting which included current and expired members as well as non-members. Paddy Tyson turned out on the night to talk about MAG, highlighting successes past and present whilst reminding people why they should join MAG if they are not already members. Also on hand to answer questions was Selina Lavender, Regional Rep for East Anglia. The night went well with all questions suitably answered and further meetings confirmed for the last Monday of every month at the same venue.

hi-viz thrust upon them. In little over three evenings we had collected 1,000 signatures. We could have gone on but we had decided to try and hand the petition to someone at the Brum demo. An opportunity didn't materialise there so we then sent
it to our local MEP, Trevor Colman (UKIP). He sat on it for a few weeks then agreed to come down to a Paignton bike night to accept the petition and have a chat to members about our broader concerns over the raft of EU proposals.
MAGoween
The relatively newly formed Plymouth MAG group, with The Westward Inn at Lee Mill, held a fancy dress party for Halloween. This was a toe dipping exercise and with free admission we expected a few to turn up. We managed to fill the Westward to capacity! It was obvious that a lot of people spent considerable time on their costumes. Simon the landlord gave a prize for the best costume of the night, which was then donated as a ‘raffle prize’ for MAG, (thank you Vic), a ‘MAG goodie bag’ went to second place.
Free Live music for the night was provided by the excellent local duo, Retrosaurus Rock, who did a series of seventies numbers, interspersed with the usual ghoulish songs. Plymouth MAG Treasurer, Wendy Griffiths was a star with a collection bucket and managed to cajole over £50 from people in the pub. We were also surprised by the good feedback and knowledge about our demo on the 25th Sept and the fight against the anti-tampering, from the ‘non-riders’ in attendance and we raised awareness of MAG even more.
Mr Colman assured us by saying he and the other 11 UKIP MEPs would vote against the proposals, however he stated we would have an uphill struggle to hold off these proposals if other EU countries voted in favour of the whole package.
Plymouth MAG does Halloween
Judging by its success and the positive feed back we’ve been getting since, this is set to become a regular date for our diary. Check out Plymouth MAG on Facebook for more photos.
