Corporate MAG member Fat Skeleton have produced this paper catalogue due to popular demand from the many old school bikers who still 'don't do that interweb thingy'. You can get a copy the good old fashioned way by calling 0845 838 0739 (local call rate number) office hours Monday to Friday, or by writing to Fat Skeleton, Hollythorpe Place, Hucknall, Notts NG15 6RP. A pen or quill may be used for this, wax seals are optional.

NB Sarcasm is down to the editor who is at the cutting edge of IT and is very smart.

Moto GP fans are probably going to like this. To view a trailer of this new release go here:

Now to win this movie gem you have to answer one simple question.

At what speed did MAG’s current President lap the Isle of Man TT course on his Triumph Bonneville in 1977? Was it 40mph, 50mph or 61.5mph? theroad@mag-uk.org

Cold Killersʼ Balaclava

Tested in a ride on an un-faired bike to Brussels in November with temperatures in low single figures. Verdict, pretty good. The bib helps stop air getting in around the neck but peripheral vision is restricted, making ‘life saver’ head turns pointless. Could be my eyes are deeper set than most people’s. Value for money? At £16.99 it seems a bit more than might seem entirely necessary but if you’re riding down a cold foggy Belgian motorway in an open face helmet you will think it’s

MAG Corporate member wins gold in hi-tech award

Phil Edwards of Sussex-based Weald EVT collected his Gold Award in November at The Green Apple Awards ceremony held at The House of Commons. The Gold award, top in the category for Engineering Best Practice, was presented to Phil Edwards for his electric motorcycle which has achieved much since its inception in early 2010.

Beating 500 nominees for this prestigious award Phil Edwards said, “To win Gold in the Green Apple Awards means a huge amount as it gets the

development of electric vehicle technology recognised as playing an important role in the future of green vehicle manufacturing.” He continued “UK manufacturing excels at specialised, niche, high- technology but to remain competitive we need to be working on future technologies and inspiring the next

generation of students in engineering.”

As a highly qualified and skilled mechanical engineer Phil is an expert in lean

manufacturing and improving processes. The Weald EVT Electric Motorcycle eclipsed the Alternative Energy Racing Record for the UK in May 2011 at Santa Pod taking the fastest time from 14.99 seconds to 14.12 seconds for the quickest quarter mile standing start. Phil’s target for 2012 is to take the European record, with the World Record his ultimate goal in 2013. www.weald-evt.co.uk

KLD Energy Technologiesʼ Breakthrough Electric Motor System

American electrical motor company KLD are making great claims for their innovative system which the Texas-based company say offers potentially enormous environmental and social implications. Christian Okonsky, the founder and chief executive officer of KLD says:

“Our system represents an enormous technological leap that is

different and better in significant ways. It is breakthrough innovation that makes electric motorbikes comparable to or better than those with gas engines in performance, efficiency, serviceability, green profile and total cost.” KLD’s motor system can deliver speeds of more than 100 km per hour and range of greater than 100 km. The technology generates high efficiency and torque without multiple gears and regenerates energy on hills and in stop-and-go traffic to extend range. Industry analysts project that 140 million electric motorcycles and motor scooters will be sold worldwide in the next six years – provided they offer high performance and value. KLD also has an agreement with Zhejiang Qianjiang Motorcycle Co. Ltd., which will serve as a contract manufacturer for KLD and plans to use the motor system in its own products. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that 50 percent of the world’s energy is consumed by electric motors. It’s been estimated that a 10 percent improvement in the efficiency of electric motors would reduce global energy costs by $100 billion a year, in addition to significantly shrinking the associated carbon footprint.
