ROAD TO THE U
SC’s Matt Barkley set a school single-game record by passing for 468 yards in the Trojans’ 48–41 shootout victory over Arizona at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Barkley completed 32 of 39 attempts and passed for four touchdowns. His yardage total broke the previous mark of 448 yards by Carson Palmer in 2002. As usual, Robert Woods was Barkley’s favorite target. The sophomore wide receiver
caught 14 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns, including an electrifying, 82-yard catch-and-run on USC’s second play from scrimmage. The Trojans didn’t let up from there: USC never punted, and amassed 582 total yards. In the end, the Trojans needed just about that en- tire offensive outburst to overcome a huge performance by Arizona quar- terback Nick Foles. He completed 41 of 53 passes for 425 yards and four touchdowns. But Foles also suffered two costly interceptions (his fi rst two picks of the season) that led to 10 USC points. Arizona dropped its fourth in a row
in a brutal stretch in which the Wild- cats’ injury-riddled defense faced several of the most experienced and prolifi c quarterbacks in the nation.
