The Bruins


Joe and Josephine Bruin are UCLA’s mascots, performing at many dif- ferent athletic venues. The school’s teams were fi rst called Cubs, then Grizzlies. However, the University of Montana claimed Grizzlies fi rst, and a confl ict arose when UCLA moved to join the Pacifi c Coast Conference in 1926. In a student vote, Bruins was chosen as the new name.
