above Are you a river rat?

Summertime is here – and it’s a busy time for jogscotties! Whether you’remaking the most of the finerweather to train for an event, or just to enjoy the great outdoors, there is certainly a lot going on up and down the country this summer!

GlasgowRiver Rat Race

The mighty Rat Race arrives on Clydeside! This event is based on the new ‘River Rat Race’ format, involving a 10k run, with a decidedly aquatic theme. Participants will run, jump, splash, kayak and climb their way around a course based around, on and even INthe River Clyde.

Activities en-route could include kayaking, climbing and roped activities plus maybe even walking the plank from the Tall Ship Glen Lee. The event is being run in partnership with the brand new Riverside Museum and will be based at the museum. Entry is open now and we have a superb deal for jogscotties to benefit from a discount in this issue of Stride – see the Glasgow River Rat Race advert in this issue of Stride!

jogworks good in Ayrshire and Arran

Since winning the title of HealthyWorking Lives jogscotland workplace group of the year 2011, The Afton Panthers have been growing, both in terms of numbers and in terms of their thirst for fun and new challenges.

New members include a girl who is training for the base camp at Everest and a complete beginner who wants to increase her fitness.

Jog Leader Janet Murray, who is starting a new post within theNHS, is looking forward to encouraging her new team based at Maybole to take up running with jogscotland after the success and fun that the Afton Panthers have experienced.

She said: “Although Iwill still be taking the Afton Panthers out, my group took revenge on me for leaving at the last session by making me dress up as Super Mario for our run!

“I have already had some interest from my new colleagues who would like to jog, so I may start a new group there too.We also have colleagues in Arran who would like to train as Jog Leaders, so jogscotland is certainly proving to be a hit inNHS Ayrshire and Arran!”
