Set yourself a goal this summer… the jogscotland 5k challenge is back!
Scenic, enjoyable and a perfect end to a hard day at work – the jogscotland 5k challenges are back in 2011!
The fun filled 5k events, held in beautiful locations across Scotland, have become a firm favourite in the Scottish running calendar and they are back again this June.
With each 5k taking place on a mid week evening in beautiful locations across six different venues, the series takes in a range of fabulous views and different terrains, letting participants see Scotland at it’s very best.
Kicking off in Aberdeenshire onWednesday 8 June, the jogscotland 5k challenge will visit the spectacular Haddo Country Park, with participants enjoying a pleasant mix of open water, woodland, grassland and wildflower gardens.
Heading further north onWednesday 15 June, Bught Park in Inverness will play host to participants who will run along the beautiful RiverNess and enjoy the very best of the famous Highland hospitality.
On Tuesday 21 June, the jogscotland 5k challenge hits the Scottish Borders, described by one participant last year as ‘the perfect location’, followed the next day by the Glasgow Green event.
The flagship event of the series arrives in Edinburgh on Tuesday 28 June, and last year attracted almost 2000 participants over two runs held over the course of the evening. The route offers runners their once a year chance to run through the Royal Botanic Garden (normally running is not permitted through the ornate gardens).
Closing the series onWednesday 29 June, the Dundee event at Camperdown Country Park is the newest event of the series, following its successful launch last year.

The HealthyWorking LivesWorkplace Challenge is also returning for 2011 – and jogscotland is urging workplaces across Scotland to take part in this excellent team building experience and join the race for victory!
Last year, the Scottish Government’s Sport and Games Legacy team did just that! Team member Claire McKenna took part to shake up her tired exercise routine. She found that running as a team was the perfect way to keep motivated and ensure plenty of encouragement when the limbs got sore.
She said: “It was lovely to go out running at lunch time or after work as a group, there was always a few of us which made sure we kept to our promise to go and it really helped blow away the cobwebs. The night itself was fantastic - everyone helped keep each other’s spirits up.”
The jogscotland 5k challenges welcome everyone – work teams, local jogscotland groups, groups of friends out for a good time and individuals looking for a personal best. The friendly atmosphere is born out of jogscotland’s ethos of making physical activity fun and accessible.
Denise Taylor took on the Glasgow challenge last year and loved the experience. She said: “I have participated in five marathons and I've done loads of half marathons and 10ks, but I can assure you that the volunteers and helpers at the jogscotland event were some of the best. Theymademe feel like Iwas a winner - which I was in my own little way! It was a great race!”
So sign up jogscotties! And bring your friends, family and colleagues along too – the jogscotland crew would love to see you. A junior fun run is also held before each 5k event, so your little ones can have a run around too with giant jogscotland mascot Jog Scotty!
