• GB 100M star Harry Aikies Aryeetey on overcoming injury, playingWAY too much Playstation and why he struggles to keep up with his pet pooch.

• Weight loss myths: 10 things you thought you knew about shredding the beer belly, including why lifting weights doesn’t have to make you too bulky to run, why you can’t just focus in on one area you’d like to lose fat from, how running on an empty stomach will NOT help you burn more fat and why the fat burning zone is a load of nonsense.

• In our nutrition section, summer is here, and you’ll no doubt be thinking about firing up the barbecue. We’ve got 10 foods that won’t make you pile on the pounds AND can help your running.

• In this month’s Hurt Locker, meet Zach Gingerich, an IT consultant from nine to five, who has somehow found time to insert himself into the world top 10 of ultra runners. That still didn’t mean he wouldn’t suffer when he took on the punishing heat of Death Valley.

• The autumn half marathon season will be here before you know it, so we’ve cooked up three training plans for beginners, intermediate and advanced runners to get you tuned up for an assault on 13.1 miles.

Men’s Running expert Graeme Hilditch said: “Whether this will be your first ever race, let alone half-marathon, or even your tenth attempt at tackling the 13.1 mile course, the fundamental principles of training are the same for everyone, regardless of ability.

“A half-marathon is a significant step up from a 10k, not only because it is over twice the distance, but the time and effort required to put the hours of training in can be tough, especially when everyone from your boss, other half or kids are vying for your time and attention.

“So, to make sure your preparations go as smoothly as possible now is the time to start adjusting your usual running routine to get your legs and lungs into shape for your first half-marathon in the autumn. By getting those miles ‘in the bank’ now, it’ll help to keep your training on track even if there are a few wobbles (courtesy of your boss, other half or kids, remember them from earlier?) along the way.”

• We also spent a day at the Edinburgh Half- Marathon following the ups and downs of Race Director Mike James. Join us for a behind the scenes look at how a big city race is organised.

• Torn hamstrings are about as much fun as a poke in the eye with a rusty nail.We give you the low-down on how to avoid them this month.

• While you’re pondering your next big race, one man has just returned from a 150 mile slog across the desert. Men’s Running’s Jody Raynsford lived to tell the tale, and does so in this issue.

• In our Icon feature, we profile the man who dominated middle distance running in the 1980s for Britain and who has now brought the Olympic Games to London. Seb Coe enters the hall of fame.

WE’RE willing to bet the running shoes on our feet that once you’ve delved into Men’s Running, you’ll discover a running mag like no other.
