Wobbly Williams Storm Women’s 10k
Around 11,000 ladies took to the streets of Glasgow on Sunday 8 May for the Ignis Asset Management Women’s 10k. Amongst them was an 80-strong team of Try Athletes…
Libby:
On a bright early morning in Edinburgh, me and my running chum Clemmie set off to take part in our first ever team event since our school hockey team… this year we were running the Ignis Asset Management Women’s 10k as part of the Wobbly Williams Team of Try Athletes.
In high spirits, we headed towards Glasgow… and then the sky went black and the rain came thundering down! Clemmie looked at me and asked hopefully if I thought it would be cancelled, I informed her I thought not, and so we continued towards a very soggy looking Bellahouston Park.
But not even torrential downpours can dampen the spirits of some people, and luckily for us, some of these people were the Wobbly Williams Try Athletes, who met us with balloons, smiles and bin bags (to keep us dry in an oh so fashionable manner!)
The Ignis Asset Management Women’s 10k is the largest all-women 10k in Britain and takes participants through the streets of Glasgow, through Pollok Park and on to the finish line at Bellahouston Park.
As the conditions were less than ideal for the likes of me and Clemmie (much preferring the great outdoors when the weather is nice!) we made a pact to stick together to keep our spirits up – suspecting the course to be wet/muggy/ hilly meant we were not looking for a PB.
With that in mind, we set off for an enjoyable 10k around Glasgow. From the first kilometre mark, local residents were handing out sweets and water and then on street entertainment kept us occupied as we covered the distance.

Unbelievably, the rain stayed off for the duration of the run – conditions could even be described as hot and much to my delight, I even had to throw water over Clemmie to cool her down!
In the shade of Pollok Park, we made our way up the hill, cheered on by jogscotland’s Jogging Buddies who yelled at us that there was no stopping on their stretch!
Overall, a great course and thoroughly enjoyable race experience.
Adele:
As I arrived at Bellahouston Park, the heavens opened, but that didn’t put a damper on the mood. From the moment my mum, aunt and I arrived sporting our pink and white Wobbly Williams vests I knew it was going to be an exciting day. The sea of pink on approach to the Funding Neuro tent before the start was overwhelming!
I have taken part in the Ignis Asset Management Women’s 10k many times before but this year was the year of the Wobbly Williams Try Athletes – it was a fantastic turn out and the mood was really upbeat.
There were runners/walkers of all ages and abilities taking part, some their first time – it was my most humble 10k experience yet. The support we got from Bryn (founder of Wobbly Williams), his ‘assistant cheerers’ and the crowd was immense… they sure kept me going, especially running through Pollok Park!
Even though it was my slowest time ever, I have so many positives to take from the day as well as a fantastic pink Wobbly Williams goody bag. I enjoy this event more and more each year.
