January/February 2011 JANUARY, MACAU FEBRUARY, MANCHESTER


The first Asia-Pacific Airline Retail Conference (ARC) took place in the Grand Hyatt Macau, with 150 delegates in attendance from across the region, as well as airlines from the USA, Europe and Middle East. Conference sessions focused on: innovation


in customer preference; changes in onboard technology and how they affect the travel retail landscape; and onboard opportunities for retailers to increase revenues. ARC was supported by headline sponsors Moet Hennessy, Coca Cola, Inflight Sales Group and Ice Watch. The 21-stand exhibition mixed established

travel retail brands, including The Patron Spirits Company, The Wandering Monkey, Timex and Buckley Jewellery, with several new companies such as Rosarini, Enoteca, Hayasei and Cygnett. ARC event director Alex Vail commented: “We


are incredibly pleased with the support shown for the event. Delegate and exhibitor feedback has been tremendous – everyone found the event both enjoyable and useful. We are really looking forward to growing the event when it returns in 2012.” The next ARC event will take place in London at The Brewery on June 30 - July 1 2011.


FEBRUARY, SEOUL

JANUARY, NICE


A celebratory awards ceremony saw Elaine Mohan from Thomas Cook win a brand new MINI One – top prize in a cabin crew super incentive organised by Cecil Macdonald and Portfolio Partners, in conjunction with Magners Irish Cider, Stella Artois, Pringles and Alpha Inflight Retail. Thomas Cook cabin crew competed for the prize by driving sales of Magners Irish Cider, Stella Artois, and Pringles. A further 10 crew members from around the UK were presented with a runners-up prize of £100 in John Lewis vouchers. Stephen Wescott, md of Cecil Macdonald who organised the incentive commented, “This is definitely something we would like to do again next year with a view to offering crew the chance to win a mortgage/rent free year.” Chloe Fox, buying manager, Alpha Inflight Retail added, “Incentives really work in driving sales. Everyone’s a winner, the airline, the crew, the brands and the customer.”

Hacor Inflight took the Asiana Airlines Catering Award 2010 Silver this February, putting them in the top three of Asiana’s worldwide system.
