Taoyuan diamond

EVA Air opened its new Diamond VIP lounge in Terminal 2 at Taoyuan International Airport in January. With plush leather seating, a gourmet buffet and ultra-fast wireless internet service, the 1200 sq m lounge seats 160 passengers. The ceiling of the main seating area is painted

to resemble a blue sky with clouds passing overhead, and has an LED lighting system that simulates sunrise and sunset every hour. The Milky Way theme of the buffet is captured above the serving area in a large oval porthole, framing a painting of our galaxy that twinkles with inpoint LED lights to create the effect of a starry night. Passengers can enjoy fresh coffee, Western and Chinese snacks and 100 per cent natural Swiss ice cream. Healthy dining choices include organic fruit and vegetable salads, high-fibre five-grain breads and a selection of sandwiches. During holiday seasons, fine dining choices such as carved beef fillet, pork ribs, Din Tai Fung steamed dumplings and the Chinese delicacy Buddha-Jumps-over-the-Wall – a highly complex dish including shark’s fin – are served. The lounge has four shower rooms, each with a temperature-controlled massage showerhead and a different theme. Passengers can choose to refresh themselves in a classic, art deco, Japanese zen or modern environment. The new lounge complements the airline’s other two VIP areas in Terminal 2, the Evergreen Garden and Business Class lounges. www.evaair.com

Austrian motifs

The month of May will see the launch of Austrian Airlines’ new Care Kit for long haul Business Class flights. The new concept introduces a set of 8

different motifs captured inside the kit, presenting a great collector’s item. The series of motifs, hand-picked and arranged by Austrian Airlines, evokes live Austrian moments back in the early 20th century in a contemporary style. The black & white prints reinforce the timeless

sense of Austria’s joie de vivre in combination with its signature mountain holiday spirit. FORMIA had the privilege to bring this new

edition to life and translate it through this heart-warming design felt bag wrapped in AUA's red strap. www.formia.com

Crane takes flight

Japan Airlines (JAL) has unveiled a brand new Boeing 767-300ER painted with the airline’s latest crane livery at its maintenance centre in Tokyo, Haneda. This is the first aircraft in its fleet to bear the new representation of the airline company. Said JAL group president Masaru Onishi at the unveiling: “The significance of adopting this new motif is to mark the rebirth of Japan Airlines. Possessing the pioneer spirit, like staff members at the time of JAL’s founding, we will take on the challenges ahead as we resolve to continue serving customers with swift responses and hospitality from the heart.” The aircraft’s first flight was a commemorative

flight from Haneda to Kushiro in Northern Hokkaido where actual red-crowned cranes can be seen in winter. www.jal.com
