Toshiba continues tomanufacture some ASICs using technology introduced over 20 years ago

Toshiba Electronics Europe's (TEE) ASIC and foundry business unit is offering European customers long-life process support while continuing tomakemature ASIC technologies available for new design starts. Both options will be attractive to customers developing system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for industrial applications where extended product lifecycles and/or cost optimised design are key.

Alongside its 130, 90, 65, 40 and

forthcoming 28nmprocesses, TEE continues to support design starts at the 0.6µm, 0.35µmand 180nmnodes originally introduced in the 1990s. These mature technologies can reduce design costs for new analogue andmixed-signal applications as well as providing options for obsolescence replacement. TEE’s seniormanager for ASIC and

foundry business development. Rainer Werner Kaese, explained: “We recognise that there aremany customers that require access tomature technologies to realise pricing and time-to-market advantages. Toshiba always supports ASIC production as long as there is customer demand in appropriate volume. For example, even today we continue tomanufacture devices using the 1.2µmtechnology we first introduced over 20 years ago.”
