IN BRIEF New lines on-line
Dengrove Electronic Components has launched a new website to showcase its new lines including: Forge Europa, Jauch Quartz and Global Connector Technology. With the additions, Dengrove provides more support fromfranchise principals on a commercial and technical basis. A full linecard is available for download and visitors can subscribe to a newsletter.
www.dengrove.com PCB growth up
December was a good month for the North American PCB industry, according to the IPC, with sales growth rates in double digits. Orders are slowing in the rigid PCB sector, but flex orders and sales are both up significantly. The industry ended the year with sales up 17.7 per cent over 2009.

Get passives, pronto
Passive components distributor, DMTL, has signed a distribution agreementwith Viking Tech, manufacturer of thin and thick-film passive devices including resistors and inductors. DMTLwill hold some stock and buyerswill be interested to learn thatminimum order quantities can be as lowas a single reel.
DMTL’s commercialmanager, Pete Jones,
said: “Viking Tech has invested heavily in manufacturing facilities, enabling the company to supply product on short lead-times. As an example,we can nowprovide industry standard MELF resistors in four to sixweeks. I expect to see a lot of interest fromcustomerswho need key passive components quickly.”

on-line andmatch it against RS’ entire product range. They can see the catalogue price and request a price negotiation to receive a quotation, which can then be redeemed on-line. Marketingmanager, RS Components,
JulianWood, said: “We aligned our published one-off price for control gear and switchgear to reflectmanufacturers’ list prices back in 2005.We also continually review our control gear discounts to ensure that theymatchmarket and customer expectations. Recently this hasmeant savings of up to 30 per cent off list price.”

More reasons to switch to ceramic
HiCap MLCCs out perform tantalum alternatives in many applications says Murata
Murata has increased production capacity of its HiCap high capacitancemultilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), designed to replace tantalumcapacitors in a number of applications. The devices are said to offer excellent noise blocking performance at high frequency, lower impedance as well as lead time and price advantages, making them ideal tantalumreplacements.
According toMurata, ceramic capacitors
are better placed to absorb high frequency digital signals as their impedance at these frequencies is lower than tantalum counterparts. When replacing a tantalum capacitor with a ceramic one, typically only one-fifth of the capacitance is required to produce the same noise absorption, reducing component prices. Additional advantages over tantalum
include smaller self-heating effect, stable capacitance over a large frequency range, higher breakdown voltage and increased reliability. Ceramic capacitors are not polarised like tantalums, simplifying placement duringmanufacturing.
