Finding femtocell support

AEL Crystals has improved performance for its VT53 range of voltage compensated, temperature controlled crystal oscillators (VCTCXO) primarily aimed at the growing femtocellmarket.

Thismakes them ideal for small cellular

base station applications, other wise known as femtocells. Designed for use in a home or small business, a femtocell connects to the service provider’s network via broadband, typically supporting two to four activemobile phones in a residential setting and eight to 16 activemobile phones in enterprise settings. A femtocell allows service providers to extend service coverage indoors, especially where access would otherwise be limited or unavailable.

Initially available in the frequency range 10 to 26MHz, AEL's range

of parts is said to combine a small 5.0 by 3.2mmpackage with exceptional performance.

Rated at ±100ppb stability over a temperature range of zero to

70°C, the devices have been characterised for use with chipsets available for femtocell development. They can also be used for other base station or ultra high stability applications.

Samples are available fromstock for 19.2, 20.0 and 26.0MHz parts. www.aelcrystals.co.uk

Timing is everything

On Semiconductor is expanding its timing device portfolio with six new PureEdge VCXOmodules priced at $5.70 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities. Devices combine LVDS differential output, ±50ppm frequency stability and 0.5ps of jitter, making the NBVSPAXXX devices ideal for communication infrastructure applications

Designed to satisfy 3.3V low-voltage differential signalling

(LVDS) clock generation applications, the new VCXO clockmodules are targeted at applications such as network routers, switches, servers and base stations.

Frequencies supported by the range include 156.25, 155.52,

125.00, 160.00, 148.50, and 74.25MHz. Customfrequencies are available on request from60 to 700MHz.

Director of On Semiconductor’s clock and data products group,

Prescott Sakai, said: “Communication systems continue to demand more advanced timing solutions. Traditional quartz-based products have now reached a point where their performance and cost are causing serious restrictions. On Semiconductor’s full range of NBVSXXXXX silicon-based VCXO devices deliver equivalent performance to commonly used quartz-based products, but with shorter lead times and lower unit costs, allowing customers to get their solutions tomarket quickly and with a reduced overall bill-of-materials.”
