We asked, you spoke, we listened
Readers of Electronics Sourcing won’t be able tomiss the launch of Electronics Sourcing Live, the new table top exhibition, seminar and networking dinner designed to build relationships between electronics purchasing engineers and suppliers of electronic components and services.
Regarding the overall theme for the seminars we chose to base the decision
on reader feedback. Thus, we added an extra question to the 2011 Reader Survey distributed in the last issue:What are themost important purchasing challenges in 2011?
Personally, I was expecting a variety of answers, typically aligned with the
unique aspects of each reader’s industry sector. What we actually discovered was that regardless of technology area, there is only one thing on buyer’sminds: material costs.
Therefore you will hopefully be pleased to hear that the umbrella subject for
the Electronics Sourcing Live seminars will be ‘cost’. If you are anything likeme, you will have started to notice the creeping effect
of inflation in your personal life.Wherever you turn, above inflation price rises, coupled with an increasing tax take, are impacting spending decisions. If this process is allowed to sweep themanufacturing sector unchecked it could impact the global competitiveness of UK production output.
The solution is effective partnerships between buyers and suppliers who are
working together to controlmaterials costs without damaging the supply chain in the process. Cost control is a regular theme in Electronics Sourcing so don’t be surprised if 2011 sees an increase in this type of content.
