HigH tecHnology support at lowcost
AWS Electronics Group has opened a purpose builtmanufacturing facility in Slovakia with skills and facilities comparable to its existing capabilities in the UK
The new facility is part of a long term strategy to offer low costmanufacturing
Newprojects and a growing order book prompted independent electronicmanufacturing solutions (EMS) provider, AWS Electronics Group, to open a newpurpose built facility in Slovakia. Located in Namestovo, less than two hours from Kracowairport, the new site provides a complete range of PCB assembly, SMT and conventional
PTH, cables and electro-mechanical assemblies and test services. The 2,600m² facility is specifically designed for electronics
manufacturing with ESD flooring throughout and temperature and humidity control. It follows the company's additional investment in equipment andmanufacturing processes such as cablemoulding machines, SMT pick and place plant and automated conformal coating processes.
An opening ceremony was performed by AWS Electronics Group’s
CEO, Paul Deehan, in front of the 70 employees. He commented: “This new facility is part of a long termstrategy for the AWS Group to support customers with low costmanufacturing.
“Many of our customers are in high technologymarkets that traditionally require significant technical support at the front of any
project. Until nowwe have beenmanaging this through our UK technical centres and tended to use Slovakia as an extension to our UKmanufacturing. Nowwe have this scale and capability here in Namestovo, however, wewill progressively develop support functions here, aswell asmore local purchasing and engineering support.
“I do not need to remind everyone of the economic conditions.
The cost down pressure is in all the sectorswe serve andwe are responding to this to provide solutions to our customers. This is high technology support at lowcost.”
Services at the Namestovo sitewill complement the company's
UK-based offeringwhich caters for thewhole electronic product life cycle, fromdesign throughmanufacture, to contract service and repair. This is delivered through three centres in the UK: AWS Cemgraft providing surfacemount technology and rapid prototyping, AWS Electronics undertaking full turnkey supply including cable/harness assembly and AWS Jantec providingwhole life support and repairs. As awhole the Group aims to bring together the technical capabilities and leading edge production technologies normally associatedwithmultinationals, with an approach to customer service that is based on partnership and personal service.
AWS Group operations director, JamieMaughan, concluded: “The
facility and the skills now available in Slovakia are comparable to any in the UK.We have prided ourselves in developing the ‘AWS way’ across the group and this now extends into Eastern Europe with our superb new facility.”
