Illuminated TACT switches incorporating Haptic technology provide reassuring feedback for users
Tactile feedback can be key to a user's experience of a product. Haptic technology is just such a tactile feedback technology that takes advantage of the user's sense of touch to provide reassuring or relevant feedback on switch operation. Common uses include arcade games and home games consoles and controllers, frequently taking
the formof vibration or force-feedback in joysticks and controllers.
Utilising this technology, theMarquardt 3006 series
Applications for the 3006 TACT switch range fromsteering wheels tomedical products
of low profile, short-travel, LED illuminated TACT switches are now available fromdistributor of electromechanical components, Foremost Electronics.
The key to the design of the
3006 TACT switch family is a damped snap action disc, a mixture of switchingmat and snap action disc, which allows flat control elementswith a fine tactile response and a clear user feedback signalwithminimumtravel. LED illumination is said tomake backlit symbols visible even at night.
With a profile of 3.95mm, the
SMDmountable 3006 series short-travel TACT switch provides a 1.1mmactuator travel with integrated damping and dust protection to IP50. The contacts are single pole, normally closed and five LED colours are available as standard. Other colours and non-illuminated versions are available on request.
Other features include standard
actuation force of 4N with other actuating forces available on request, user defined tactile pressure point and a large actuation surface. Switch life expectancy is greater than 500,000 cycles and operating temperature range is -40 to 95°C.
Managing director of Foremost
Electronics, Alan Cook, said: “This high reliability TACT switch manages to combine a lowprofile, evenwith an integrated LED,while offering a long actuation travel and superb tactile response. Applications include control panels,multi-function switches, car steeringwheel switching systems andmedical products.”
