C Cockerill Shoes improves

store efficiency with EPoS from Cybertill

ockerill Shoes, nestled in the heart of Surrey, has two footwear stores, the first Haslemere and the second in Cranleigh. It is a business that is proud of its independent roots and the freedom this grants

them, so they are able to pick and choose lines and brands that best suit their business and location as well as commissioning and sourcing original designs from around the world. It is this independent spirit that has sustained Cockerill Shoes and allowed it to thrive since its first day’s trading back in 1953.

Life Before Cybertill Cockerill Shoes operated another EPoS system before Cybertill, but it had

become somewhat redundant, as Cockerill’s had decided against paying a substantial amount of money to upgrade the EPoS software. Therefore the previous supplier stopped support, and because it was an old version, it did not function correctly. There were no records on the system and both stores operated in isolation as they could not be linked, and according to Cockerill’s business manager, Melanie Hardingham: “In effect the previous system had become a cash register.” Not wanting to be faced with a similar predicament with a future EPoS supplier, Melanie researched other systems and chose Cybertill.

“One of the beauties of Cybertill is that the updates and upgrades are done for you. The constant updating of the software means we never

encounter the problems we did with our previous EPoS supplier, where you buy an expensive system and are then expected to pay for an upgraded new version – with Cybertill it continually evolves presenting new features. But it is not done in a way that that bamboozles you, it is much more subtle,” continues Melanie.

The Perfect Fit When Cybertill was installed it remedied many of the issues the business

was facing, such as; the stores not communicating with one another, no records on sales, stock or clients being held within the EPoS system. “With Cybertill we have immediate access to stock levels and both stores can communicate with one another. We now have sales history on there, enabling us to build up a customer database. We are able to transfer stock, knowing what stock levels are and where stock is,” comments Melanie.

Sizing up Stock Within twelve months of installing Cybertill Cockerill’s have noticed a sharp rise in sales and business performance. With other effective changes being implemented within the business, this has meant that Cockerill’s are coming out of the recession stronger than many of their peers, as Melanie explains. “We have increased sales dramatically since the beginning of the year – to which Cybertill has certainly helped. We use the data Cybertill provides to back up our decisions so it is not guesswork. Our stock control has definitely improved. As a business we can target exactly what is selling, so if something is selling quickly we can ring up and try and order more or to move stock around between stores. As they are very different, what sells in one does not necessarily sell in another.”
