FROM THE EDITOR Show Time

T

he February weather may be cold and wet, but there are several items in this edition that will brighten things up. Wellington boots come to the rescue on page 26 offering some rays of sunshine to your customers year-

round. Gone are the days when a rubber Wellington boot needed to be cold, stiff and dull. A welly can now offer warmth, colour, comfort and style. We bring you a bunch of the best, brightest and most comfortable wellies the market has to offer! It’s the Autumn/Winter 2011 show season this month, with PURE at London Olympia from 13-15 February, closely followed by MODA from 20-22 February. We’ve gained sneak previews of all the major footwear shows, gleaning insight into what’s likely to be flying off your shelves in 2011 and beyond – read more on page 30. And, don’t miss Editor’s Choice, this month we have two fabulous selections in Men’s Formal Footwear and Ladies Comfort Casuals. We also bring you our hugely popular Fashion Trends page,

with predictions from the true fashion junkies’ favourite forecaster, Trendstop.com! The Global Village is a multi- cultural trend about a bohemian world-traveller aesthetic. The folksy influence of Russian Babushka look and East European embroideries meets East meets West with Islamic styles. Enjoy! Our intrepid footwear reporter Henry Harington has been

putting Yaktrax Walkers through their paces walking on Dartmoor. According to Henry, the Yaktrax gave excellent purchase climbing up slopes and clambering over rocks, far better than the soles of some much vaunted walking boots do under snowy or even just wet conditions. Yaktrax can be worn over boots, trainers or other standard shoes and are equally suitable in an urban environment or in the countryside Any of your customers walking on frozen ground, will find the extra traction that the Yaktrax give will greatly reduce the risk of falling. Indeed, Henry reckons it would be in the national interest, despite the government deficit, for the NHS to issue them to vulnerable people. He maintains that it would save the NHS having to deal with as many smashed hips and arms as they do when the weather turns to ice. The team at Footwear Today will look forward to seeing

you at the MODA show at the NEC Birmingham from 20-22 February, look out for Stand T26! I’ll be waiting to meet and greet our readers on the opening day - so do come along and tell me what you’d like to read about in Footwear Today in 2011!
