Bill Whitehouse, National Operations Manager, Kennards Hire, Australia

Kennards Hire has been attending the Executive Hire Show over the years for a number of reasons. We are always on the lookout for new products from around the world to bring back to the Australian market. Being first with innovative equipment is a great advantage for our business, and for our customers.

I have found in recent years that that the close relationship Kennards has with numerous hire businesses in the UK and Europe has enhanced our learning opportunities, and further assists us in remaining a quality company. European manufacturers are at the forefront of innovation when it comes to quality products that suit the varying conditions of Australia. The business trends and systems in Europe provide lead indicators and valuable information that we can utilise in our business model. The Show provides us with a great opportunity to catch up with overseas suppliers, colleagues and industry peers, and allows Kennards to maintain great relationships with the hire industry in the UK and Europe.

” Jeff Hind, Director, Tool-Time, Bishop Auckland

The Executive Hire Show is the only exhibition that fellow Director Mark Hatton and I attend. It’s the only one focused on our industry. We go to look at what’s new and to explore equipment that we should add to the fleet. We make a full day of it, enjoying the change from the daily routine, and we visit all the stands to make sure we miss nothing.

Given the last two

severe winters, we are looking to increase our offering of space heaters. We will also look at the latest low-level access equipment to address the needs of customers working at height.

I am really looking forward to attending the Show for the first time. The Ricoh Arena is a great venue and very easy to get to. The exhibitor list shows that a lot of the major plant names will be there, such as Bomag, JCB, Takeuchi and Volvo, and there will generally be a very good spread of equipment on show. I am always interested in new products and I will want to take advantage of some good deals on the day. I also enjoy the banter with suppliers and other hirers.

At the last minute I

wasn’t able to attend the Show last year, so I am even more determined to be there next week. I want to see what’s new across the board, and the

Innovation Zone sounds well worth exploring. The exhibition is also a good opportunity to meet and talk with other hirers. Recently, we have noticed increased sales demand for items ranging from compaction plates to diamond blades, so I’ll also be looking for potential retail items we can add.

We only officially opened our hire operation last March as an adjunct to our established landscape construction business. However, shortly before we launched, Belle Group’s UK & Eire Sales Manager, Bob Williams, told us we ought to attend the Show as it was such a great opportunity to see the latest equipment and ideas. We did go, and we learned a great deal. We bought more Belle mixers, equipment such as transformers and lighting from the Hire Supply Company, Stihl brushcutters and trimmers, and we talked to Youngman about the Boss tower system, which we subsequently purchased. We will be visiting again next week, and with the steep learning curve of our

successful first year behind us, we have identified more equipment we need to add to the fleet, and we will be looking out for suppliers with innovative products.
