COUNTDOWN TO 2011 EVENTS The Routes event schedule is

jam-packed for next year, with the events being hosted in some of the world’s most exciting aviation markets. First on the list is a trip to the Caribbean for Routes Americas in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic during February. Routes Americas is the platform for airlines to meet with airports to discuss air service development to, from and within the Americas and recent registrations include: American Airlines, Copa Airlines, Gol, Frontier Airlines, Aeroméxico, Airplan, Tampa International Airport, Baltimore Washington International Airport, Quito International Airport, Punta Cana International Airport and Branson Airport Latin America’s aviation market is enjoying a sustained period of growth, which has seen new entrants in the markets, as well as consolidation between major players, the biggest of which are Chile’s LAN and

Brazil’s TAM’s plans to form LATAM Airlines. In late September IATA raised the profi t forecast for Latin America for the year from $900 million to $1 billion and it is the only region to post two consecutive years of profi t since the fi nancial meltdown.

Things are also looking up in North America. The region’s carriers saw their passenger traffi c fi nally back to pre-recession levels during September, according to IATA. Traffi c was up 11% that month, compared with the same period a year ago and North America also recorded strong passenger load factors at 84.1%.

The CEO of host, Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), Andrew O’Brian, says: “We will offer to all participants the chance to discover a leading Caribbean destination that today receives close to nine million travellers a year from more than 20 cities around the world.”
