>>> The global world route development community will gather in Berlin in October next year – make sure you are there.

Be in Berlin B

erlin is ready to welcome over 2,500 air service development professionals to World Routes in 2011 and has big plans to show delegates just what

Europe’s trendiest capital city and the Brandenburg region have to offer. Of course, the centrepiece of Berlin’s rebirth is its new airport development – Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI), currently one of Europe’s largest construction projects, which is expected to open in mid-2012.

“The BBI will be one of the most advanced airports in Europe and with double the current capacity, it will make Berlin an ideal gateway for new intercontinental routes to Europe,” remarked Dr Rainer Schwarz, CEO of Berlin Airports. Adding to this was Burkhard Kieker, CEO of

Berlin Tourism: “When the BBI Airport opens, it will give new impetus to Berlin’s tourist industry. A city also needs special appeal if it wants to introduce new flights and Berlin offers an array of attractions to tourists – from world-class museums and a booming creative scene to its legendary nightlife.”

Partying into the early hours

Berlin was particularly keen to give delegates in Vancouver a taste of what we can expect next year and did so by hosting an exclusive party on the final night of the event. With a DJ flown in especially from Berlin, the party (reportedly) went on until 3am.

After four busy days of walking the event floor, non-stop networking and producing daily publications, the Routes News team called it a night sometime after midnight. We have no doubt, however, that next year will be another unforgettable Routes event and one to get into your planning schedule right now.

This is traditionally handed over to the host a year before the next annual event.

VIVA LAS VEGAS!

Las Vegas will host World Routes in 2013 – the first time that the event has taken place in the United States. Hosted by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), delegates will also be able to experience the new McCarran International Airport’s new terminal, which is scheduled to open in 2012. “The non-gaming economic impact of one British Airways flight from London to Las Vegas is currently $91 million annually,” said Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the LVCVA. “This flight was the result of opportunities realised at previous Routes forums. We are hopeful that welcoming these key decision- makers to Las Vegas will expose them to our extraordinary destination.”

Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority’s vice president of marketing, Cathy Tull and UBM Aviation’s CEO, Peter von Molkte, ink the contract for the hosting of World Routes in 2013.
