WHAT IS ROUTES TOURISM MEDITERRANEAN? Based on the hugely successful Routes concept, this new event is focused on one-to-one meetings between key tourism stakeholders, including airlines, tour operators, airports and tourism authorities from the Mediterranean region.

Over 100 senior product managers from tour operators will take pre-scheduled, one-to-one meetings with over 200 suppliers including hotels, resorts and local tourism product owners.

The event will provide a platform for sharing knowledge and market information, growing relationships between tourism organisations and facilitating dialogue between tourism companies, airlines and Mediterranean tourism and aviation authorities. “Unlike most tourism events, our event will neither be an exhibition nor a conference. Routes Tourism Mediterranean will focus on a series of

pre-arranged meetings between tour operators, airlines and their suppliers in each destination, to discuss new products, commercial terms as well as promotional strategies and reach specifi c agreements regarding the tour operators’ summer 2012 programmes,” explains Gerard Brown, international business development director. It is fi tting that this innovative event is being hosted by Antalya Airport – a gateway that has established a unique approach in Turkish aviation. Established in May 2007, ICF Airports is a joint venture of Fraport AG and IC Ictas, the Turkish infrastructure group. ICF Airports operates all of the terminals at Antalya Airport through a €2.37 billion concession agreement, and handled 19 million passengers in 2009. This year, it opened a new Domestic Terminal.

Who will attend? About 350 delegates are expected from

about 20 countries in the Mediterranean:

• Airlines that require market information about potential destinations in the Mediterranean.

• Invited outbound tour operators looking for new products in the Mediterranean region.

• Mediterranean tour operators and hoteliers showcasing new offerings and resorts.

• Airports from all over the Mediterranean region.

• National and regional tourism authorities, who will have the chance to market their destinations to tour operators and airline decision-makers.

Routes Tourism Mediterranean will take place on February 13–15 in Antalya, Turkey. Visit www.routesonline for more information or email gerard.brown@routedevgroup.com

March, April and May, or September through to November are ideal for golfi ng,” says Laukenmann. Medical tourism in Turkey is also growing in popularity, due to the pressure on health resources and increasing medical costs in Western European countries. “Laser eye surgery and dental procedures are priority areas for hospitals in Antalya. These facilities offer medical

packages with tour operators and luxury hotels, which, even including fl ights, are still less expensive than having the same procedure in patients’ own countries,” explains Laukenmann.

Then there is retirement tourism, which is a new but growing niche tourism segment. “Retirees from countries like Germany can secure rooms in fi ve-star hotels in Antalya at

very attractive prices during the months of January, February and March. This can often be cheaper than the cost of living in their own country, so they can escape the worst of the winter and enjoy our mild Mediterranean climate,” says Laukenmann.

That sounds like reason enough to us to get to Routes Tourism Mediterranean in February.
