Further growth looks certain as Al Bateen continues to see increases in aircraft movements. In the fi rst half of 2010 the airport generated 3,973 commercial traffi c movements, 34.3% ahead of the same period in 2009. Operators currently based at Al Bateen include Al Jaber Aviation, Falcon Aviation, Prestige Jet and XO Jet. “Our movements are on the up, so ADAC is confi dent that the business will continue to fl ourish. There were about 530 business jets operating in the Middle East in 2009 and we expect this fi gure to rise to almost 1,200 aircraft by 2018, with 38% of them based in the UAE,” Jones explains. “Al Bateen Executive Airport is unique in terms of the dedicated services it provides, its location and facilities. The airport is a 10-minute drive from the city centre and Yas Island, the hosting venue for F1. Being open around the clock and with taxi time from landing to the executive terminal being less than two minutes, passengers can be assured of an extremely swift ground transfer, with cars allowed to collect from the ramp area,” Jones says. Today, Al Bateen’s market is executive and VIP aviation operators, pilots who are on the lookout for a specialised facility that understands their customers’ unique needs, businessmen who need practical and time-saving travel solutions, and families that want fl exibility when travelling in large numbers. However, Jones is keen to further diversify its business mix. “We are also anticipating that Al Bateen will become an important base for MRO operations and will also become a hub for business and trade conferences,” he forecasts.


With Jones in the driving seat and the support and expertise of the ADAC team behind him, the hopes are that Al Bateen will soon be setting the pace as the number one business airport in the region – and possibly even the world.
