What would be the best way to describe your business? Trading House is often described as an undertakers. I prefer to think that we offer a great service to help companies liquidate their excess inventories in a controlled matter. And one that doesn’t affect their brand or customers.

You’ve been in the industry for many years. What has been the biggest change in that time for you? I would suggest that the biggest changes are twofold. We all miss a lot of the fun that the games industry used to afford us and, secondly, internal structures in our major retailers have changed so much that great buyers are now hamstrung from making buying decisions. This is a shame, because in most cases the buyers know what they are doing.

Tell us something about yourself that we would never have guessed? I’m a qualified accountant. I’m not sure whether that’s interesting, though.

Lance Brown Director,

Trading House (Europe)

What’s the best jolly you’ve ever been on?

I have been lucky enough to go on too many jollies to mention, but Twickenham with Alex Croft and Marc Spence was great, as was Vegas with yourself and Mark Williams. Then there’s table football with Stuart Dinsey and Simon Harvey. But the funniest was seeing Mr Potato Head beating the living daylights out of Batman. Rock on Mr Chateau for defending the honour of a lady.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had? Working in a kennels for deaf and blind dogs. They have no toiletry coordination.

You’re over 6ft tall. Is it true you trained as a jockey? Thanks Adam. It’s true. It wasn’t so easy to keep the job, however – especially when you are my weight.

Who will you be

interviewing next week? Darren Bowen, UK sales director at Ubisoft.

Below: Other attendees included Gaikai’s Dave Perry, former Sony Studios’ boss Phil Harrison and Codemasters’ Rod Cousens.
