Getting into hot water

B&W Engineering has succeeded in bringing thermal insulation performance to the limits of technology with the launch of its second generation A-LogEqu EVO II

Its predecessor, the revolutionary A-LogEqu EVO I, won B&W an ITCA Mercury Award in 2008 and this year saw a repeat event for EVO II. A-LogEqu EVO II gives users 25% performance improvement on its predecessor by keeping water hot for 26 hours and also through saving weight and eliminating waste. And so another Mercurys winner is announced in Cologne. Says Hubert Walter, founder and MD of B&W Engineering: “We analysed the processes and the equipment of hot and cold f&b service on board, we removed maintenance intensive simple electrical parts, and, concentrated on the main functionality. By improving the thermal insulation

performance was 20 times better. “The result is the stand-alone, flexible A-LogEqu EVO II system compatible with ATLAS and KSSU. Containers have a wall thickness of just 12 mm with the unique insulation compound.” The A-LogEqu containers are available in dispenser and storage versions, ideal, e.g., for hot beverage/instant soup, and instant porridge. Service can be by portion, directly from the

trolley, and

the system is equally good at keeping white wine, beer and soft drinks chilled for serving at the right temperature without any dry ice. Hot meals can be served without any ovens and on short haul flights, where time is at a premium, the product is hot and ready to serve direct from the container. A-LogEqu can also keep ice cream frozen for 14 hours, at the perfect temperature for consumption rather than being solid as a rock. “There are many applications for the

A-LogEqu system, for any size and type of operator, aircraft, cabin class and sector length,” adds Walter. The handling is easy. A-LogEqu enables keeping food safely according to HACCP principles and the A-LogEqu units can be cleaned in the caterer’s dishwasher machines. A-LogEqu can be used to enhance passenger service, to increase ancillary revenue, and/or simply to save costs. “The final huge step to EVO II was

intensively supported by the very open- minded and innovative team of Etihad Airways. By now, they are happy with already more than 500,000 unit flight hours with our EVO II Hot Water Dispenser; usable without any certification issues”, concluded Walter.
