ITCA Update
“The Middle East is forecast to be the fastest growing region in the world in terms of passenger demand”
instance, Qatar Airways was named the winner of the World’s Best Business Class Award at the 2010 World Airline Awards, with Etihad Airways winner of the World’s Best First Class Award. Both these airlines also featured in the top three for best onboard catering across all seat categories. Finally, there is significant government support for air transportation development in this region.
The Mercurys report
Send in your entry now! There is not a moment to lose, says Kevin Cox, chairman of the Mercurys
As most will know, it is my privilege to take up the chairmanship of the Mercurys this year, and I have to say I am really looking forward to it. The
Mercurys, if you are not familiar with them, are the most prestigious awards within the travel catering Industry and highlight the best- in-class for On-Board products and services concentrating on ‘Innovation’. Whilst the event is fundamentally about
awarding excellence — and winning an award grants substantial kudos — it’s one of those events in which I would strongly recommend you participate. The sheer range of influential industry professionals who show an interest in, and attend, the awards means that even by entering, it will put you on the radar, not to mention the global journalists who will be attending and reporting on the participants and winners. There are categories for almost every related product/service you can think of, but I’d like to draw reader attention to the categories for 2010. They are: 1. On Board Service 2. Food or Beverage 3. Equipment – large and small (separate categories will be made so as to best accommodate the entries
Over the next three decades it is forecast that $48 billion will be invested in airport projects to support passenger growth into Dubai, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Kuwait and Muscat. In view of the above it would seem, on the basis of both quantity and quality, that the Middle East is the likely to be the most dynamic region of the world in terms of inflight catering over the next ten years or so.
4. Skills Development 5. Systems and Process Development 6. Inspirations – this is a category for ideas that would, if developed, benefit customer experience
I reckon I could name about 10 companies off the top of my head that offer something that could suit all of the above categories. I was actually about to start writing out suggestions for companies that I would like to see participate, but I cannot show
such favouritism so I am appealing to you through this article. Take the effort and enter this year! Just think, if you have a product or
services that are innovative, offer quality in application and offer better customer (internal
or external) satisfaction then simply complete the form on the web site and who knows you may be a winner this year! Enter early and save on the entry fee – all details are on the website.
This year we are also giving entrants the added opportunity of showcasing their product/service in the specially-designed Mercurys area within the Exhibition Hall in Nice for the duration of the show and at no additional cost! If you are planning on entering, I strongly
recommend doing so now. There’s not a moment to lose as the deadline is 15th November 2010. So
“The sheer range of influential industry professionals who attend the awards means that by entering, it will put you on the radar”
there’s still time to do a good job of your entry, but no time to hang around. Head over to the ITCA website and scroll down
to the Mercurys section under Awards for more information and inspiration. Good luck! Go to:
