NPES Helps Members Identify Growing International Markets

Latin America Day Program and the International Business Center provide networking opportunities

ness in the 21st century. The printing industry has participated in the global economy for centuries and represents a $700+ billion industry worldwide. The U.S. continues to be the global leader in the industry but the develop- ing regions of the world are growing at much faster rates than the developed regions of the world. Any manufac- turer whose market focus is only on North America is leaving significant dollars on the table. To assist member companies in identifying the markets with the best potential for sales, NPES has operated a dynamic and aggres- sive international trade program for decades. NPES operates offices or has representatives in Brazil, Russia, India and China, the four fastest growing

T

homas Friedman, in his best selling book “The World is Flat,” clearly illustrated the global nature of doing busi-

markets worldwide, but also focuses on other emerging regions such as Central/Eastern Europe, Mexico/Cen- tral America and the Middle East. To further assist members to under- stand the current market opportunity in the Latin American region, NPES will present a program entitled “Expand- ing Your Horizons South of the Bor- der.” The program will take place on Tuesday, October 5 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Room S103cd, which is conveniently located near the hotel shuttle bus departure/drop-off area. After the presentation, there will be a networking reception that will provide an excellent opportunity for GRAPH EXPO exhibitors to meet and devel- op relationships with Latin American printers. Registration is free but you must notify NPES of your attendance plans by e-mail to Pernilla Jonsson at: pjonsson@npes.org or Kip Smythe

at: ksmythe@npes.org. The program features presentations by experienced business development experts and key industry leaders from Latin America. They will present the market profiles and business strategies

to enter and/

or further develop these markets. The session will provide an excellent opportunity to network with prospective customers and part- ners from these regions.

International Business Center In addition to the “Latin America Day” program, the International Business Cen- ter, located in S103ab, is the epicenter for global networking at GRAPH EXPO 2010. The center is where the global delegations of printers from around the

world congregate to plan their daily activities. It offers a comfortable environ- ment to meet with potential international customers. Translation services are pro- vided to assist NPES members, GRAPH EXPO exhibitors and potential custom- ers facilitate business.

There will also be representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce and EXIM bank to assist exhibitors

with questions on tariffs, international finance and other trade matters. NPES is here to assist member companies to succeed in the excit- ing, expanding global marketplace. For questions or further assistance, please contact Kip Smythe, NPES Vice President Global Programs at e-mail: ksmythe@npes.org or Pernilla Jons- son, Assistant Director, International Trade at e-mail: pjonsson@npes.org.

Integrated Marketing: The New “In” Thing for In-plants

Free education seminar helps in-plants market themselves

By Mark Vruno I

n our constantly changing world of work, human resources con- sultants stress the importance of employees keeping themselves “marketable”—obtaining skills

that

look good on resumes and that seam- lessly transfer into different indus- tries. In much the same way, in-plant printing departments need to ensure their viability, too, while at the same time strengthening their overall value. “In-plants need to lead the charge and show the importance and useful- ness of leading-edge technologies,” says Debbie Pavletich, immediate past president of the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association (IPMA) and graphic services manager at Briggs & Stratton Corp. “It’s critical for in- plants to partner with their organiza- tion’s customers,” she adds.

Lunchtime session That’s why IPMA and In-Plant Graphics magazine are co-sponsoring

a free lunchtime educational session for in-plant printers today, Tuesday, October 5, from 11:30 a.m-1:30 p.m. in Room S504. The session, “Inte- grated Marketing—The Next Step for In-Plants,” will educate attend- ees on how to help drive response rates, build marketing intelligence, boost sales and add strategic value to

their organizations. Specifically,

it features a panel of in-plant experts from three industry segments show- casing how they successfully imple- mented transpromo, Quick Response 2D barcodes, pURLs and variable data within their environments to gen- erate a significant return on invest- ment. Attendees will learn not only the “what” of integrated marketing, but also how to apply what they learn during the session to their operations when they return home. “Like all graphic communications professionals, it’s important for in- plant professionals to stay ahead of the technology curve and make con- tinued investments in their opera-

tions,” notes Ralph Nappi, president of the Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC). “Unfortunately, in-plant printers face a unique challenge in that the very people they serve are often also the ones who sign off on their investment decisions.”

Integrated Marketing - The Next Step for In-Plants

Room S504, McCormick Place South

Sponsored by: IPMA and In-Plant Graphics

This information-packed lunch and learn session features ‘in the trench- es’ success stories by in-plants from several industry segments that have incorporated integrated marketing components including TransPromo, VDP, pURLS and Quick Response (QR) codes to minimize costs and maximize profits.

But, Ms. Pavletich adds, “Who bet- ter to present solutions to the mar- keting department than the in-house printing operation? We know the business and the corporate culture and have direct access to all internal customers.”

FREE LUNCHTIME SESSION TODAY 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Four prominent equipment spon- sors: HP Indigo, Kodak, Ricoh and Xerox are joining the discussion, along with software supplier spon- sors InterlinkOne and Printable Technologies, who are demonstrat- ing some of the successful campaigns recently launched by in-plants. If you are an in-plant printer who

wants to provide additional value to your customers and see your organi- zation grow, don’t miss this opportu- nity to learn not just the ‘what’ but the ‘how’ to apply integrated market- ing tools into your current operation to build a stronger, more profitable partnership with your customers. Lunch included, pre-registration required; visit: www.ipma.org.
