My Diary: Santiago Asensi
Spanish law firm Asensi Abogados’s Santiago Asensi reveals what the next month has in store for him including a request to a whiter than white wedding.
DIARY I
believe that September is the month when you better feel from the beginning that your energies are more than ready to face the ‘new season’. This month and the next one always brings a full schedule of work and events. Early this month, I will meet in Madrid with a very good client. Further than the advice on the current status of the Spanish regulation for marketing strategies, the client also needs a detailed analysis in some of the major jurisdictions of Latin America where the company is planning to enter. That weekend an old friend of mine is, finally, getting married and I’ll have fly to my city of origin - Alicante. The invitation for the wedding comes with the dress code instruc- tions: “Dress on White”. It’s an Ibiza style wedding and I think I have never worn white pants to date - do these really exist? But on this occasion it seems that I have no choice. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the pre-EIG cocktail night on the 15th due to an appointment with a regulator scheduled early in the morning of the 16th, but
ookies say
post market will be for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and we expect to see turnover reach a large six figure sum. However, if Rip Van Winkle doesn’t run in this race, the Cam- bridgeshire Handicap will prove more popular in the betting. In sport, the Ryder Cup will undoubtedly be our biggest event with punters likely to place at least half a million. The Super League Grand Final is another huge betting event and turnover will be in the quarter of a million range. The All- Ireland Football Final between Cork and Down will be a major event for our Irish punters and we will take in excess of at least half a million. In football, the Premier League Clash between Manchester United and Liverpool will attract the most attention. As this game will be difficult to call, the first goal-scorer market creates the most interest.

September sees the start of
the Champions League group stages where all eyes will be on Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham side to see how they fair in Group A along- side holders Inter Milan, Germany’s Werder Bremen and Dutch champions FC Twente. Sky Bet makes Spurs second favourites to win the group behind Rafa Benitez’s Inter who are likely to finish top. It’s not all football during Septem- ber with the play-offs and the Grand Final of the 2010 Super League season and the continuation of the Premier League snooker where the ‘Rocket’ Ronnie O’Sullivan is aiming to win his ninth Premier League title. The start of October sees a crunch match in the Premier League when bitter rivals Chelsea and Arsenal lock horns. Carlo Ancelotti’s side did the league double over the Gunners last season so Arsene Wenger will be keen to avoid defeat when the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge.

I’m sure this will be a successful event.
The 22nd and the 23rd, I will meet up in London with my fellow friends and colleagues of
Gaminglaw.eu. The agenda for those days includes the re- launch of our website, our annual cocktail reception organised this year together with the IMGL in Copenhagen during the EIG and many other issues TBD. Initially, the last week of September is booked to finalise the last aspects of a huge project that Asensi Abogados has been working on during the last six months, and that will be launched in the first of October. Confidentiality demands me to stop here. The only thing that I can say by now is that I think that it will benefit the interests of the gaming industry in Spain.
Last but not least, my - also white - Ipod is working again after some siesta time and this will allow me to listening U2, Coldplay, Simple Minds and Loquillo, further than other bands, during my next upcoming trips.
