Serpentine sees red


Award-winning French architect Jean Nouvel has become the tenth designer to create a summer pavilion for the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens. The annual project has become an international site for architectural experimentation and the immediacy of the commission – a maximum of six


months from invitation to completion – provides a unique model worldwide. Nouvel follows in the footsteps of other luminaries such as Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry and Olafur Eliasson. He has chosen a vivid red for his design, a colour that reflects the iconic British images of traditional telephone boxes, post boxes
