Roka Canary Wharf

Set for the same stellar success as the original branch in Charlotte Street, Roka Canary Wharf is Rainer Becker’s new baby. Since it launched in late 2009, a steady stream of sharp suits and glamorous girls have been flocking in for the fabulously fresh sushi, sexy cocktails and smiley service. The new restaurant has the same smooth wooden surfaces and buzzy open kitchen of the W1 branch but with a larger dining room and bigger cocktail bar, which overlooks Canada Square. Entering the restaurant, you first pass through the bar, which is lined with gigantic jars of shochu, Roka’s signature drink. The Japanese spirit is reputed

to have healing properties. Each flavour comes with its own unique benefit – try the Nightingale Martini, made with Shiso shochu, elderflower and orange. Shiso apparently boosts digestive power, which will surely come in handy when you make your way to your table to experience head chef Yoshi Muranaka’s contemporary Japanese menu. Roka classics such as miso-marinated black cod are created on the authentic robata (Japanese charcoal) grill along with a Wharf exclusive, teriyaki baby chicken with shiitake rice and ginger aubergine. The range of sashimi and sushi is expansive, and made with fish that if any fresher, would still be flapping.
