Is this the most entertaining restaurant in London?

Plush bar with a dancer’s pole

London’s restaurant scene is evolving. No longer are we content with good food and glossy decor – we want experiences that are diff erent, decadent, daring. You can eat in bed at supperclub (see page 21), or watch extravagant live performances at Circus. This WC2 newbie has come along at just the right moment to tap into our desire for multisensory kicks. Circus looks every inch an A list destination (it was designed by Tom Dixon) but it’s the entertainment that makes it shine. Troupes of burlesque dancers strut up the stairs onto the main table while trapezists dangle from a suspended hoop. Other stylish surprises include classy drag acts and fi re eating ballerinas. If you’re not too distracted to eat, there’s a Pan-American menu created by former Gaucho chef, Nik Biok, plus delicious cocktails (try the Hibiscus Margaritas). Circus has certainly injected a shot of high end hip into the cabaret dining scene so it’s no wonder that a string of celebs have been rolling up since the launch. Matthew Williamson and David de Rothschild are on the venue’s ‘Friend’s Committee.’
