THE HIP LIST Pizza East

Carbs are back in vogue thanks to Nick Jones. The Soho House Group owner has launched a pizza restaurant underneath the unequivocally hip Shoreditch House and it’s already attracting Agyness and Henry et al with its anti-Atkins delights. Inspired by the iconic Mozza Pizzeria in LA, the restaurant is a huge industrial chic affair with stripped wood floors, concrete pillars and exposed pipes. Guests can dine at the Pizza Bar, with a view of the wood-burning ovens. Naturally the pizzas are far more fashionable than the average. There is a basic Margherita – tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil and olive oil – but many are made without the usually

ubiquitous tomato. Try the duck sausage with shaved artichokes, boschetto al tartufo and Parmesan, or veal meatballs with prosciutto, lemon, sage parsley and cream, all cooked on a base that strikes a perfect balance between springy and firm. Non pizza options include sea bass cooked in the wood-burning oven with butternut squash, or sexy salads like pancetta with pear, hazelnut and gorgonzola. Desserts include hot cinnamon doughnuts with Valhrona chocolate, or a salted caramel tart. After dinner, head down to the grittily pretty basement bar, Concrete, to drink white peach bellinis with the Shoreditch House hipsters.
