Secretary for Transport and Public Works ao Man Long

works officials. ruption case involving former Secre- Transport and Public Works, Lau Si Io as
The proposed development was tary for Transport and Public Works, saying that Pedro Chiang’s request is part
of a group of jobs and projects included
in the charges against Ao at his second
trial in the Supreme Court (SC).
The former official is accused of in-
fluencing administrative procedures re-
lated to the estimation and concession of
land. In return, he is accused of receiving
compensation by an impresario whose
whereabouts are presently unknown and
who is accused of offences connected to
that of the former Secretary.
Villas and tourism
According to the Commissioner
Against Corruption (CAC), plans
for the project were found at A Man
Song’s former official residency. The
17 villas would have been built on a
land lot next to the Guia tunnel and
the plans continued to be under offi-
cial evaluation even after the former
secretary was sent to jail.
The project included not only luxury
villas but also tourist features. Neverthe-
less, the first official evaluation was to
“fail” because it did not provide the nec-
essary conditions to manage transport
and a great concentration of people.
The construction firm didn’t give
up and submitted a new plan, this time
solely for residential purposes.
The CAC says the investigation be-
gan in 2005 and Ao Man Long was ini-
tially detained in December 2006.
This is the second time since Ao was
found guilty that a deal related to him has
been nixed.
Earlier, a dispatch by the chief ex-
ecutive published in the Official Bulle-
tin nullified the concession of a land lot
near the Carmo Swimming Pools, also
involved in the corruption case.
Meanwhile, in court the final allega-
tions went on at Ao’s second trial, involv-
ing 23 construction jobs and projects and
related land concessions, mostly hotel-
casinos, social housing, residencies, pub-
lic services and sports facilities.
