Wales What Does Success Look Like?

Well, achieving the number one spot shortly after launch and retaining that ever since is a good start.

Add to that year-on-year record volume and value of property sales, staff retention with constant innovation and you get a vivid picture of success created

by Auctions.

But for Paul Fosh Auctions, established in February 2001, it’s not just the longevity, continuity and tenacity that defines their success but an unerring appetite to adapt and change.

There’s surely no better illustration than when faced with the covid extinction of ‘ballroom’ sales the auction house immediately shifted its entire business online.

“It was a scary time but we’ve never looked back” says Paul Fosh, founder and MD.

“We’ve been successful over the years as we have had the courage to see the positives in difficult situations by finding our own solutions. Instead of adopting a head in the sand approach to say, covid, we increased our headcount and didn’t furlough a single member of staff.”

Indeed, staff numbers continue to grow. Established by Paul with three staff, Paul Fosh Auctions now has ten. Of the original three, two remain at the company with the third only leaving to move to Spain.

Global extreme sports athlete Paul, a stickler for customer service, says: “Having the courage to give recommendations and advice to clients and stand by those recommendations is actually one of the company’s culture

points. This could mean turning clients away if that’s what’s best for them; it’s all about fostering good, long-term relationships.

An in-house department controls marketing and social media posts while it’s the range and diversity of services offered that has helped shift them to another level.

Initiatives like the introduction of a surveyor heading its specialist commercial department and a pioneering property sourcing service to spot properties matching a clients’ needs.

So, what of the future?

Paul says: “Certainly more growth and more adaptation by offering varied services to suit the needs and desires of buyers and sellers alike.

“This is likely to include offering variances on the traditional unconditional auction sales. More meet and greets of buyers and sellers and specialist service providers but a return to the physical ‘ballroom’ sale is unlikely.

“That ship has sailed. The experience we’ve, over the past four years, of holding online auctions has demonstrated that online auctions are better for sales and ultimately our customers.

“More people view online auctions than ever used to attend ballroom sales leading to more bids and higher sales prices.

“Why would any auctioneer ever go back to the room? Certainly not with their clients’ best interests at heart,” says Paul, as he readies his team for more success at their next monthly online property auction sale.
