Understanding and navigating the planning application process in Powys has just been made easier thanks to improvements announced by the County Council’s Planning Services.


The service has launched a new-improved planning website including a step-by-step guide on applying for planning permission in the Powys Local Planning Authority.

Wales Climate Week: Electric vehicle charging points coming to four more Powys car parks


Four more Powys communities are to get fast electric vehicle charging points, after the county council secured additional funding from the Welsh Government.


Work to upgrade power supplies and install the chargers in Llanfair Caereinion, Llanwrtyd Wells, Carno and Llanfyllin will take place in the first three months of 2024.

Family-owned soft drinks company is Powys Business of the Year


Glasses were raised to toast family-owned soft drinks manufacturer Radnor Hills who had a night to remember at the Powys Business Awards.


The company, which has a workforce of 280 at Heartsease, near Knighton, was named the overall Powys Business of the Year, sponsored by Powys County Council.


Established in 1990 by William Watkins on his family farm, which has exceptionally pure spring water, Radnor Hills has an annual turnover of around £58 million and is constantly striving to become more sustainable to protect its local environment.


The company has made a ‘zero to landfill’ commitment, introducing straw-free cartons, 100% recycled plastic bottles, planting more than 14,000 trees and recycling everything it possibly can.

River Severn Partnership wins £3.75m funding to boost wireless innovation


The River Severn Partnership (RSP) has been awarded £3.75m of Government funding to support the growth of wireless innovation and technology in some of its key economic sectors.


The award from the Department for Science Innovation and Technology (DSIT) is focused on the delivery of the Government’s Wireless Infrastructure Strategy, published in April 2023. The RSP will look to its key sectors and communities to take full advantage of the transformative effect of using wireless networks to generate value and growth at the local level.


Innovation Regions will demonstrate and adopt 5G and other advanced wireless ‘use cases’ across key sectors of the economy and the benefits this ‘smart technology’ can bring, including transforming public services and growing the economy, making farms, factories, and workplaces more productive and creating better paid jobs. The project aims to generate further inward investment in ‘wireless networks’ and smart technology in the region and the adoption of the opportunities by its key sectors.

Sums of between £1,000 and £25,000 are available after a total of nearly £1.1 million was secured by the council, from the UK Government, via the Shared Prosperity Fund.


This money, which is designed to help businesses expand or secure their future in challenging times, will be available until it has been fully allocated.

32 projects get SPF money to help Powys businesses expand


Thirty-two projects have received Shared Prosperity Fund (Levelling Up) grants worth a total of £5.24 million in the last year to help boost business investment and create jobs.


The awards have been made by the Powys Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF) Local Partnership Board, under its Supporting Local Business theme.

Businesses looking to move to Powys, could be eligible for a Growth Grant from the county council.


It will bring the number of Powys County Council sites, where residents and visitors can charge their vehicles, up to 17.
