A Bright Future for the City of Swansea

7172 Kingsway

A £1bn regeneration programme that’s raising Swansea’s profile for investment, development and business is pointing to a bright future for the city - Reports Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader.

Building on everything that’s been achieved in recent years, a huge amount of Grade A office space is soon becoming available in Swansea, thanks to a combination of innovative new schemes and a number of sensitive transformations which are helping bring the city’s rich heritage back to life.

Examples include the work that’s now taking place on a 104,000 square foot major new office development in Swansea city centre that, once open later this year, will provide space for 600 jobs in sectors like tech and digital.

Located on The Kingsway and developed by Swansea Council, the scheme is aiming to be net zero in operation. As well as modern, flexible office spaces, it will also include public spaces, retail units, an events hall, and food and drink areas. Solar panels on top of the building will be included, as well as underfloor heating, heat recovery systems to minimise energy use, and a rainwater capture feature

to help with

water supply to plants and trees in and around the development.

Bouygues UK is leading on the construction of the development, which is being part- funded by the Swansea Bay City Deal.

Theatre and Albert Hall buildings back into use are also ongoing, as the council and its partners look to further restore and celebrate Swansea’s heritage through schemes that are fit for modern times.

Other plans include the £750m mixed-use redevelopment of other key sites in the city centre, including the Civic Centre site on the waterfront and the Swansea Central North site in the area of the former St David’s Shopping Centre. This work is being led by the council’s long-term regeneration partners, Urban Splash, with more detail expected to be available this summer.
