doubled, with production rising 1,900 tonnes or 47.5 per cent to 5,900 tonnes, the second highest total on record behind only the returns of 2007. Lastly, there was growth of 200 tonnes or 11.1 per cent from coarse mixes or blends for sheep, up to 2,000 tonnes. Total third quarter other feed production fell 800 tonnes or 4.3


per cent from the record total achieved a year earlier; however, the current output of 18,000 tonnes was still the second highest on record. The decade long third quarter average for other feed was bettered by a considerable 3,500 tonnes or 21.5 per cent. With all sectors other than sheep feed exceeding their respective


long term averages, and in that case 2020’s third quarter production had risen considerably from the slump experienced a year previously, it would suggest that Northern Irish feed production is in a healthy position. In contrast with this stage last year the ruminant sectors are surpassing their year previous outputs and they seem to have arrested the slump observed across the calendar year of 2019. Comparisons to year earlier figures within the non-ruminant sectors on the other hand are affected by the record high production levels they have achieved recently; however, it is worth noting that current production is at historically high levels.
