hulls, many can now reach speeds on par with sportscars. Imagine driving100+ km/h over a motocross track. This is not a far cry fromrunning a fast boat in rough seas.
High-speed boating is not risk-free Wearing lifejackets and using the kill- cord is crucial, but it won’t protect you from all perils. Acute injuries to the spine, neck, knees, and feet increase. Even overboard ejections take their toll, sometimes with fatal outcome. Shooting off a wave and impacting the next, can expose the hull and the humans on board to severe shocks coming from below as well as sideways.
The risks can be effectively mitigated To prevent back or spinal injuries and ejections, suspension seats must work for the full range of forces that the boats and its passengers are exposed to. Slamming impactscan exceed 10g and those containing lateral forces are the most dangerous. Therefore, the seats must effectively reduce vertical as well as lateral forces while safely supporting occupants at all times in complete comfort.
Synergising with the human body For comfort during long transits as well as to support the body during impact, it is crucial to maintain the optimal shape of the spine and the balance of the head.
