EXECUTIVE REPORT
Simply the best
Alan Guthrie asks a number of hirers from around the country why they are looking forward to visiting the Show in February.
The Executive Hire Show is firmly established as the major national annual event for our industry. The 14th exhibition takes place at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on 5 and 6 February, and will be the ideal way for hire professionals to get the New Year off to the best possible start.
Gary Derraven of Phoenix Hire & Sales.
Gary Derraven, Chairman of Phoenix Hire & Sales based in Cwmbran, told EHN, “I’m really looking forward to the Show and catching up with the colleagues and contacts that I have built up during
the 40 years that I have worked in this industry. It is also a great way of making sure I’m up to speed with all the latest product innovations.”
David Fielden of EPS Hire Centres.
For David Fielden, MD of EPS Hire Centres, based in Sowerby Bridge, one of the great benefits of visiting the Show is that “it enables you to put faces to names of the people you deal with, and to strengthen those business relationships. In many categories of equipment, a lot of suppliers are offering very similar products with the same basic features, so often the deciding factor in who to do business with comes down to the sales rep and the rapport you have with them. And we’re always looking for that new product that you can add to the fleet which meets customers’ needs and can help you gain a competitive edge. A flexible independent hire business can see it at the Show, make a quick purchasing decision and get the maximum benefit.”
Tony Criddle, Operations Director of Beaver Tool Hire (Chichester), pictured, left, with MD Neil Johnson, told EHN, “We always make our visit to the Show a real company event. On the Tuesday before the event, Neil and I will drive up with our six depot managers and chew the fat as we travel - it‘s a great way

to spend time together usefully. The next day we’ll all visit the Show and spend time talking to suppliers, catching up on the new products on the market, making contact with our industry peers, sharing ideas and discussing the challenges we all face. Neil and I stay over to go again on the Thursday, when we will be joined by our Assistant Managers from the branches. We want as many people from the company to visit the Show as possible so they can be involved in the industry and get new ideas. The Show is one of the highlights of our calendar and we always look forward to it.”

For Matt Dolan, pictured (right) with his father, Mike, the Show’s timing is perfect. This January, he officially opened his new business, MD Tool Hire in Warrington and he will be visiting the exhibition to get the operation off to a flying start. “We will be looking for core fleet items and new products that we can both hire and sell, and we’ll be visiting as many stands as we possibly can. I am really enthusiastic about the new company and we really want to try and raise the standard of hire in our local area. We’ll also be on the lookout for that special product that can help you target niche opportunities and win new business.”

Michael McCarroll, Director of McCarroll Plant Hire in Ballymena, is a loyal supporter of the Show. “I honestly wouldn’t miss it. It’s such a great opportunity to catch up with fellow hire professionals and see what’s new in the marketplace. Being a single-depot independent in a largely rural area, it’s easy to feel somewhat isolated, so coming
